This was the annual Port Clinton Art Fair that is embraced by the residents of Highland Park along with the North Shore. With my week-ends so busy , of late, and the many theatrical productions and new dining spots to review, I have not had time to visit this festival in years. Well, today, along with our friends Casey and Barry, we decided to make the trek. We noticed some changes in the world of art. It seems that while most of us have veered away from photography (so to speak), “art photographers: using meal, 3-d and other specialties are more plentiful. We even met an artist who uses photography and pain to create pictures that appear to be 3-d ( the items seemed to jump off the canvass and many people were tempted to touch them to see for themselves that this was indeed a flat surface).
One Particular artist, Jennifer Lashbrook, a Texan, who we spoke with about “Harvey” and the tragedy that is happening, does artwork that I was unfamiliar with. By the way, she is from Dallas, so Harvey is not a problem for her (on a personal basis). Her work is called “Swatch Paintings” and they are not only unique is initial appearance, but even more so, from a distance or thru the lens on your cell-phone- AMAZING!
Although, Jennifer Lashbrook’s oil paintings are impressive, she has become known for her ”Swatch Paintings”. This unique method of portraiture involves intricately cut pieces of paper arranged to create a stunning work of art. From a distance the works exhibit a photo realistic quality, upon closer inspection… I suggest you visit her website www.jenniferlashbrook.com. While she has many works that she has created, if you had a very special event coming up, one could commission her to create a unique piece of artwork that would bring the greatest of memories to the family involved. Visit www.jenniferlashbrook.com
She says she can create whatever it is you want, all she needs is time and the information to work from. Based on what we saw today in Highland Park, I truly think she can capture anything that you might want on a “swatch painted” canvass.
