Washington Heights is an area of New York that is Hispanic. In the Marriott Theatre of Lincolnshire’s current production which is in previews now ( will open Wednesday, January 31st-review will be available at this site on February 1) features a cast that is largely Hispanic and as it turns out, most of the production team is as well. This musical was the first written by Lin-Manuel Miranda ( who gave us “Hamilton”). The story looks at three generations of Puerto Ricans and their lives . The story takes a look at their lives and the personality of the community itself.
As we meet the people and hear their stories, we see the challenges they face. Evolution causes change in an area and many of us who have lived in a neighborhood that has changed know the adjustment is not an easy one. They face other challenges such as education over career and love of family over anything else. In this play we watch three days in the “hood” as it faces dramatic changes. We watch our characters face hopes, dreams and pressures that can alter their lives forever.
The production will continue at Marriott Theatre of Lincolnshire thru March 17th. Tickets start at $60 and are available by calling the box office at 847-634-0200 or at www.MarriottTheatre.com.
The Marriott Theatre is located in Lincolnshire on the campus of the Marriott Hotel Lincolnshire with plenty of free parking. They also have restaurants on premise with some packages available by calling 847-634-0100
