Everyone that visits Petterino’s located at 150 N. Dearborn in Chicago’s “Theatre District” knows that this is THE PLACE for pre-theater dining ( they do some after-specials as well). When you enter this wonderful space, you quickly notice that the walls are covered by framed pictures of celebrities that have dined there over the years. Each caricature is of someone you know or know of. My friend, Paul Lisnek of WGN fame has been up there for years and often, when we meet him for dinner before a show we dine in the booth where his picture hangs.
Over the years, we have become close with their manager, Justin Torres who recently said that it was time for Steve Dale ( also a WGN guy) and myself ( WCPT) to be up there as well. Our job: Get the drawing done, frame it, and bring it in.
Yesterday, was THE day for me ( Dale beat me by a day) and thanks to the great people at The Great Frame-Up in Northbrook, I got it done. I also need to thank my good friend Barry who taught me how to enlarge the artwork for framing.
On the drive downtown for dinner at Petterino’s before the opening night of “MJ”, we were quite excited. It is something special to be on this wall. I dropped Jane off while going to park and she brought the framed picture in. Justin greeted her and hung the picture on the wall. Please note, the picture is much smaller than the others. It seems an error was made in the size given to me, but Petterino’s will make sure that it is remedied and that we will be on an equal level with everyone else “on the wall”.
If you are dining at Petterino’s before one of the many plays in Chicago, take a look at my caricature. Enjoy your dining experience and know that I will be watching you
( from the wall).
