I truly enjoy the work that Northwestern University students do on their stages. When I saw that they were doing “Legally Blonde” I thought this might be perfect for my granddaughter, Sarah, the aspiting actress, who plans on attending school at Northwestern in just 8 short years. So her mother, Julie and Sarah and two of their friends went to see the production. Knowing that we cannot review per se, I am just telling their thoughts to you in order to help you decide on this entertainment for yourselves.
As Julie wrote:
We really enjoyed seeing “Legally Blonde” at The Wirtz Center on the campus of NU. There was singing , dancing comedy and some serious life lessons. Elle Woods is crushed when her college boyfriend ( Warner) dumps her as he heads off to Harvard Law School. He implies that she is not smart enough or derious enough to be his girlfriend or future wife.
However, Elle is determined to get him back and prove him wrong. As a result of a very unique law school application, she finds herself at Harvard Law and quickly realizes her potential. With the support of some new friends, Elle sets out to prove to herself ( and to Warner) that she is smart and capable.
The musical numbers were a delight. Catchy tunes and solid choreography. Inaddition to a great cast there are two dogs ( always a crowd pleaser). We loved all the characters, but Paulette was probably our favorite. She is Elle’s manicurist and become her best friend when she arrives at Harvard. Paulette is funny, charming and of geat importance, becomes atrue friend.
While the production is very entertaining there is an important life lesson to be learned from the show. We learned that you should never let someone twll you that you are not worthy or capable of becoming the person you know you can be. Hard work and determination can pay off!
We initially didn’t know how professional this college production would be, but were very impressed by the talent we witnessed on the stage.
We would recommend this production t everyone, from 10 years of age and up.
