My schedule, being what it is , makes it difficult to do holiday dining, but tonight, Jane and I decided to take a shot and go to a restaurant that we had never experienced before. As most everyone knows, Highwood Illinois ( a hop skip and jump north of Highland Park) is known as the village of dining, so why not?
Since we have been doing Scott Harris Hospitality restaurants, I selected their Highwood spot Disotto located at 310 Green Bay Road ( next door to Froggy’s). While I know that it being Italian, it may be close to Davanti Enoteca ( where I am going for a review Thursday), but after all, it is Valentine’s Day and Italian dining is romantic!
Our server Grace was quite knowledgeable and despite the place being crowded and some very loud diners, she made us feel at home and quite comfortable. Jane and I shared a wonderful Caesar Salad that was plentiful and easily shared and then for dinner, Jane chose the Branzino (European sea bass, lemon caper butter, artichokes and roasted lemon). I selected the Spaghetti Carbonara ( spaghetti, black pepper, bacon, egg yolk and pecorino). Both of these were generous portions and outstanding flavors.
They also brought an assortment of breads and a wonderful mixture of oils and cheese for dipping. The breads went well with the sauce of my spaghetti as well.
Being Valentine’s Day, we decided to go for a dessert which tonight was an amazing Red Velvet Ice Cream Sandwich (a red velvet donut, coconut gelato cream cheese icing, candies pecans and a scoop of vanilla ice cream /or gelato) to die for!!!
As stated earlier, this is not an actual review as we did not sample the menu, BUT what we had was terrific and I can guarantee our return. While Highwood has many places to dine, most of us have a favorite or two and when the mood is right, return where we know the food and service will always be top notch. This will be one of those places. 7 minutes from home and a wonderful experience!
