For several months, my radio listeners have heard the spots for Darvin Furniture and Mattress, a company that has been serving the Greater Chicago area for over 100 years. The store is in Orland Park, and as it turned out, the drive from Northbrook was about an hour. Well worth it for a selection that was incredible. The store ( or perhaps it should be called a complex) is over 200,000 square feet. The main part of the first level are the offices and showroom. There is also a separate mattress area ( humongous with everything one might look for) and an outlet where one might find great buys on odds and ends and slightly damaged pieces. A lot of the “outlet” items are discontinued , so they are new but at prices that are greatly reduced. The second floor of the main showroom is closeouts and one of a kinds. Take a stroll and find the treasures that will make your home perfect.
Our shopping expedition was geared for one thing alone- a new dining room! Most of you know that recently Jane and I moved to a new place in Northbrook and during the move, pretty much re-did all of our furniture in both bedrooms and the living room. We by-passed the dining room table as for the number of times we entertain, what we had seemed to work.
Once the move was made and the family began to come by and visit, we saw that we had in many ways outgrown the table and chairs we had moved from place to place. We found ourselves adding a card table and or chairs on the corners of the table that made it tight and those visiting uneasy. The time was right!
Since we had done so much furniture shopping in the past 18 months, Jane was a little apprehensive, but since we were scheduled to do a story, said okay. When we drove down LaGrange Road we saw lots of shopping and a great number of furniture stores. The majority were those that have stores all over the greater Chicago area. Darvin has the one store, but quite huge. Our sales rep Bill D’Arcy greeted us with a smile, asking questions as to what we truly wanted and or needed. He showed us the custom areas and then the areas where the dining room sets are already that, sets! He showed us how the custom part works, using a special computer screen that allows one to put in all the features desired and then waiting as the computer paints the picture of what the set will look like…and the cost! Very impressive.
The floor was filled with merchandise, of all sizes, types and of course prices. The sale that is presently n is powerful allowing consumers to save a great deal of money. The upstairs “outlet” was almost as huge as many furniture stores are on one level and we did find one set that caught our eye.
Funny thing about shopping. Often, we walk past something several times and then later find that this was the perfect item. This took place today. When we came into the building, we spotted a table that was almost perfect. Six chairs and a leaf that would allow for up to 10 ( we could move our Kitchen chairs into the dining room for larger parties). The color fit our scheme and with the full extension, the table and chairs would work for our family ( and extras). After Bill went ove some of the ites that we had looked ta and our custom design, Jane mentioned that we had seen a set in the foyer/entry. He said, let’s grab a tape measure and go take another look. Jane’s eyes lit up! It was perfect in size and with all the discounts it was right on target with our budget.. That was easy, wasn’t it. The only extra I bought ( besides delivery) was a five year insurance package that covers the wood, the upholstery and makes sue that our guests ( and family) will always be dining in style and comfort.
As we headed home to tell our kids about our experience, Jane said that she wished she had known about Darvin when we refurnished all the other rooms. We could have had some special savings as they are ready to help you enjoy your home…today! Our set is pictured here
Darvin is located at 15400 South LaGrange Rd in Orland Park. The phone number is 708460-5384
to take a closer look before driving out, visit www.Darvin.com.
I suggest taking the ride as furniture looks better in person and it is far easier to measure comfort by sitting on a couch or in a chair or on a mattress. When life happens and you want to live in comfort, Darvin is the place!
Now that I have seen Darvin, I see why they have been around for over 100 years! Great products! Great service! Great products!
