“From Jackie With Love”

Black Ensemble Theater will host a VIP night of a special engagement- “From Jackie With Love (What The World Needs Now) on Wednesday, March 11th as a fundraiser . The special show will be for three nights only at The Black Ensemble Theater located at 4450 N. Clark Street (at Sunnyside) March 6th, 7th and 8th at 8 p.m..

On the VIP night, the evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a pre-show reception (appetizers, champagne and wine followed by the performance at 7:30 p.m. (knowing Black Ensemble, it probably will begin at the previously stated 8 p.m.)

The tickets for this special event are $65 but the VIP will be $150 . which includes the pre-show reception.

If you have never witnessed the energy and talent of the founder of Black Ensemble, Ms Jackie Taylor, you are in for one heck of an evening. Ms Taylor will sing, dance and share some of her acting talents through monologues from many of her own original plays, and the works of the infamous August Wilson,  Lorraine Hansberry, Pearl Cleage and Tennessee Williams. All of this will be pieced into a story with Ms. Taylor’s personal song compositions as we get to experience her life from growing up in the Cabrini Green Project, to embracing a dysfunctional family and to her own failures and successes.

Many of us have been witness to what Ms. Taylor began and have watched her take her little ensemble to a full- fledged major theater and cultural arts center. Black Ensemble Theater is in fact a preeminent African-American Theater company, probably the best known in the USA, where over the years, Ms Taylor has discovered some great talent and nurtured it bringing us the talented performers who grace her stage as well as others in our city. Many of these talented people may never have followed this path had she not interceded with their lives and nurtured their talents, teaching them a better way of life. She is definitely “What The World Needs Now” and you’re attending these special performances will help Black Ensemble to continue their mission.
