Tonight I re-visited the Broadway In Chicago Playhouse to not only see the production of “Working” , the musical version of Studs Terkel’s marvelous best-seller and a JEFF recommended musical, but the added “Talk Back Session” where everyday people come up and talk about their “work” with audience members asking questions. The play ( which you can read my review on in the archives) or on www.theatreinchicago.com, is after all about “Working” and Terkel’s interviews with hundreds of people talking about what they do and how they see their jobs as well as some of their dreams.
Tonight’s “talkback” was hosted by radio personality Lisa Wolf, who can be heard on WIND Radio ( 560 AM) on Saturday nights- her guests: Robert Butter, one of the producers of the upcoming special “family production” of “Peter pan” That will open later this month at the Tribune Freedom Center on Chicago Avenue, just East of Halsted in a special tent theater and Susan and Harlan Haimes of the Northern Suburbs. Susan is the immediate past chair of The Joseph Jefferson Committee ( our version of the Tony Awards) and Harlan, a Periodontist who is also involved with the Jeff’s as well as being a theater enthusiast.
The session lasted about 25 minutes as members of the audience moved down closer to the stage area, joined by some of the ushers ( the Saints are a marvelous group of volunteers who adore theater) and a few of the cast members. Questions about the Jeff Awards, finding the time to get to as many plays as these people attend, questions on the new “Peter pan” compared to the Broadway version or even the Disney animated film, out of townees wanting to know how they can learn more about what is going on in the many theater in town ( who, by the way, were told to visit www.theatreinchicago.com for all that is taking place and more.
It was a delight to hear more about a producer and how they choose to do what they do; a teaching sub who cares very much about our marvelous theater community in Chicago and making sure they get the recognition they deserve and a medical practitioner who adores his wife and her work as well the theater itself. Emcee, Lisa Wolf, chimed in as well, but didn’t talk about her “work”, radio personality,Interviewer, actress, model and mother – she does it all. To learn more about when these talk backs will take place and to order tickets for your chance to see this marvelous production, visit www.BroadwayInChicago.com or any of the Broadway In Chicago box offices.
