Last week, on our show, Around the Town Chicago with Al Bresloff, I mentioned to Frank that I had been exposed to a special treat at an area restaurant, Georgie V’s Pancake House and More in Northbrook. It is not easy to describe just what it is, although I think I did a pretty good job. They use a thick cut Challah ( bread) and dip in a special batter ( like French toast batter, but with a little caramel ) and fry it with the corn flakes and more Caramel sauce. It is more than delish!
Since I received many notes from my listeners about this dish, I went back today to take a picture. As long as I was there and it was on the plate in front of me, I decided that this would also be my breakfast ( and lunch) the portion is large enough to share ( or take half home).
This is a local eatery that is open for breakfast and lunch. I see many who are doing this now as it is easier to plan. Many families eat dinner on their own as kids need to be driven to activities or sports and lessons, so who is at the table for dinner and how can restaurants survive if they remain open. Georgie V’s is a great little place and this particular dish is worth the trip. They are located at 1139 Church Street ( next to Sunset Foods) in Northbrook. 847-753-9638. Visit www.BreakfastNorthbrook.com.
Plenty of parking and some other neat little shops in “downtown” Northbrook.
