When it comes to things happening in and around Chicago, we at “Around the town Chicago” love to be among the first to report the news to you, our readers and of course the radio ( wcpt820 ) on Sundays. Today, I was able to don my hard hat on Navy Pier to learn more about a special project that will be unveiled to the public in the spring of 2024, “Flyover”. Located next to the Ferris Wheel ( at Navy Pier , the Centennial Wheel, where they used to have an I-Max theater, they are building what is called “an experience” unlike anything Chicago has had before.
The Flyover will give you the experience that you are in fact flying over Chicago. The experience will take about 30 minutes from start to finish. The ride or experience as they call it has three levels and can accommodate 61 people per session. There is a screen that is five stories high with a 65 foot spherical screen so that you will be immersed into the flight.
From the lift of the take-off to the spray of water from Lake Michigan and the sounds and smells of the city, you will feel as if you had added wings and had the ability to go wherever you want, whenever you want. They have filmed the many well-known areas of the city that tourists want to visit ( or at least see). Locations included the Chicago Theatre, Navy Pier, Tribune Tower, Millenium Park, and streets like LaSalle, Michigan Avenue, and the outer drive along the lake.
They even have a special performance by the Soul Children of Chicago Choir.
When completed, the attraction will use a state-of-the-art moving platform with 6 degrees of motion which will give you the feeling that you are indeed in flight.
Since they are still working on this multi-million dollar project we had to wear hard hats and vests as we strolled through the rafters and the construction site. It is a multi-sensory experience and at this point they are shooting for spring 2024, BUT you can buy tickets now at special prices- $24 for adults and $14 for children. We know that they will be higher as the opening gets closer, so my suggestion is to buy now and plan ahead. Visit www.flyoverchicagonavypiercom.
With the holidays approaching, this may be a great stocking stuffer. We will keep you informed as we get closer to their opening at www.aroundthetownchicago.com/flyover.
