Over the years, we have seen many stores open up specializing in bedding. In particular mattresses. In fact, when driving along some major streets, one can see shop after shop, which makes one wonder, just how many companies make mattresses?
The truth of the matter is that there are a great number of firms that do and quite often, each has several types of the same mattress. There is now a new outlet for your mattress purchase- the wharehouse concept has come to our area with a new company, Mattress By Appointment. Located in wharehouse spaces in different areas of the Metro Chicago market, these are unique shops.
They carry name brands such as Tempur-pedic, Serta, Beautyrest, Dreamsmart ,Serta and many more at huge savings. They do not have the overhead that comes with being in a mall or strip center, so they can pass the savings on to the consumer.
Huge savings! Easy to shop! You call, make an appointment, meet withtheir expert and find the right mattress for you and your family. They will even help you in financing your new purchase.
Let me tell you our story. Jane and I had a mattress that was nearing 15 years. It was a pillow top and over the years, had compressed and was not as plush as it was on day 1. We checked out a number of stores. Let’s face it, there is never a day where there is not a SALE in a furniture store or mattress shop. After going to several stores, including the amazing DUMP, we opted to take time to meet with the people at Mattress by Appointment. Scott greeted us and sat down with us to find out more about our habits ( do we watch tv in bed? Sleep on one’s back? Side?) and then showed us the different brands and types of mattresses they had.
Walking to the showroom was also an experience as the walls were lined with mattresses, floor to ceiling. Felt like we were entering the “world of sleep”. This also made the experience something special.
Once we found the right firmness and size, we were all set. The price we were given was far below that of the other shops we visited and as it turns out, the only mistake that we had with our purchase was the question of High or Low, which as it turns out was relative to the box spring, not the mattress. Jane said “high”. When they delivered the bedding, and we went to bed that night, we became aware that the bed was much higher than we had expected. We also had not asked about a mattress pad so the thick quilting would not be felt.
We were living “The Princess and The Pea” as Jane could feel the quilts and it was as if there was a tiny pea placed beneath the high mattress, which of course disturbed her sleep. The next day we got a mattress pad. That night was better, but the height was more than we could handle. Jane had to climb up on the bed or use a small step stool. We called Scott who suggested that we go with the regular box springs which were delivered two days later and voila- great sleeping with comfort and at a savings of almost 76%.
