If you are a regular listener of Around The Town with Al Bresloff on WCPT820 radio every Sunday afternoon, you know that a few weeks ago, Frank and I did a review of a new “hidden secret” restaurant in Niles. Phoenix Flame is a delighful dining space with more outside space than inside and while it is hard to find, it is “worth the trip”.
Last week, Frank spoke about a special treat that he and his friends enjoyed last week-end. Yanko told Frank the story about a recipe that his mother had for a special cake. Only served on week-ends ( it takes 6-8 hours to prepare) this beauty was hidden. His mother never gave anyone her recipe, but when she passed, a book of notes was found and on one page, it was written for Yanko- and there it was, her special recipe and now, 35 years later, it can be enjoyed at his Phoenix Flame Restaurant located in Niles at Oakton and Waukegan Roads.
