FESTIVAL HISTORY
Live Bait Theater developed more than 200 world premieres over its 20-year history and was nominated for over 50 Non-Equity Jeff Awards, predominately in the category of New Work. Sharon Evans was the Artistic Director from 1987-2008, and in 1995 she created the Fillet of Solo Festival, which featured over 200 solo artists in its first 13 years.
In 2009, Live Bait closed its doors, but Evans’ enthusiasm for new work and for the Festival remained undiminished. When searching for a new producer of the Festival, it was important to her that it be a theater dedicated to new work and she was delighted to find a perfect fit with Lifeline Theatre. In 2010, Lifeline and Live Bait co-produced the 14th Annual festival, and Lifeline has been carrying on the tradition ever since.
This is a time of bringing fresh work to the stage and thanks to the Rogers Park theaters, Lifeline can indeed keep the Festival alive. Not only alive, but with all the available venues’, growing. Sixteen storytelling collectives and numerous solo performers- three weeks at two venues telling us their personal stories. WOW!
The festival for 2015 will feature:
enSolo
Gayco
The Kates
The Stoop
Sweat Girls
Tellin’ Tales Theatre (featuring Tekki Lomnicki)
PLUS solo performances by Rose Abdoo, Stephen Bastien and Kim Morros, stories by GeNarrations and Five From Rogers Park.
This all starts January 9th and continues for three weeks with performances:
Fridays at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. (Heartland and Lifeline) and 10 p.m. Heartland only
Saturdays at 4, 5:30 p.m., 7 p.m., 8:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. Lifeline and Heartland)
Sundays at 4 and 5:30 p.m. (Lifeline and Heartland).
Lifeline Theatre is located at 6912 N. Glenwood and Heartland Studio at 7016 N. Glenwood
Both in the Rogers Park neighborhood, just steps away from the Morse Avenue Red Line stop and in between them,if your schedule allows, TheoUbique’s “Always…Patsy Cline” is still playing.
Tickets are a mere $10 for each show you select to see and if you are really into having fun and saving dollars, you can purchase a Festival Pass for ONLY $50 which opens them all to you (subject to availability). To order your chance to be part of this annual event, one that will keep you warm during the bitter weather we have been promised, call 773-761-4477 or visit www.lifelinetheatre.com
By the way, if you drive, parking can be a problem in the neighborhood, so we suggest you park in the lot at Morse Avenue and Ravenswood. Here you will find shuttle service that will take you to the theaters.
