Here it is, June 29th and Frank and I went to the ball game. Yes, as per our contests, we had some wonderful seats at Wintrust Stadium in
Schaumburg for a home game of The Schaumburg Boomers. The weather today was what one might call “hot and steamy” which may have accounted for the surprisingly low attendance. The park is sort of a mini Wrigley ( as it was before all the improvements) with lots of FREE Parking, easy access and very comfortable seating. They also have a section on the grass where one can bring a chair and truly relax having your “day in the park”.
The original contest was set up so that a listener ( WCPT) would come with their guest, joining Frank ( with Cary), and Myself ( with Jane). Since Jane’s daughter’s 50th birthday celebration was still ongoing, we had an extra ticket, so I invited another listener who was also correct on his answers to come, using Jane’s ticket. It all worked out. The winner was Douglas Rallo, an attorney from Libertyville ( and his wife) and the extra player, was Greg Tucker from Vernon Hills. We all met at the ball park and settled in for a ball game.

The way our tickets worked is that we had tickets that are “reserved ( all-you-can-eat) seats. We were just short of the shaded section behind the first base dugout, with great views of the entire field. Our special wrist bands allowed us to get up to 4 items every inning, and I must say, probably one of the greatest bargains one will ever have. While there are a few limitations, for the most part it was all system’s go. Anyone who knows me, knows that the first thing at a ball game for me is the salted peanuts and of course, a hot dog is for sure. I had a lot of liquid nourishment today in order to stay hydrated as it was in the 90’s and for the most part, sunny!

Burgers and Italian beef as well as wonderful popcorn and a dynamite pretzel along with several types of beer and many other beverages and foods were available and all of us partook of the marvelous flavors. Well you can’t beat fun at the old ball park. Even though the home tam lost, we had a ball and for those who have never attended a minor league game, you have no idea as to just how fan-friendly it can be.
