[rating=5] I am not big on fast food dining ( unless I have to be) and when it comes to pizza, like most of us, I have favorites that are never to be changed. I am a thick pizza lover, but primarily Pizzaria Due and Malnati’s. When it comes to thin, my favorites are Father and Son ( Marcello’s in Northbrook is the only one left) and Barnaby’s with their patented braid crust. As I drive around of late, I have seen the Jets Pizza signs and wondered more about them. They , as it turns out, are a Detroit company and offer what they call Detroit Pizza ( note: not New York). Last week, I was asked to have them come on my radio show to talk about their 20th location opening in Chicago. I said it would work but only if I had eaten some of their product. After all, how can I refer to something that I am unfamiliar with. WCPT is known for its slogan “Where facts matter”, so I needed the facts.
The Jet’s people agreed and knowing that the hungry staff at the station would partake, they send one of their managers, Vito Sorrintino with all the different pizzas on their menu. By the way, if one looks at their site you can also see the great looking salads and sandwiches these little shops offer. This company was founded in 1978, so they have been around for a long time. They now have 20 stores in the greater Chicago area and are on their way to expanding.
For those of you who prefer the NY look or lets say, thin round, they have that as well. They prepare their crusts every day so fresh is where its at. When you’re a Jet you stay a Jet. I know my list has expanded!
The Detroit Pizza is a deep dish, square so that each of them has corners. They call it the eight corner pizza and I must say, we all loved it. By the way, they sell slices as well so if you are on the road and have a taste for pizza, check www.jetspizza.com, find one nearby and enjoy. They also have some neat bread items, sides and you are assured the highest quality control you will ever find in a pizza parlor. Quality and taste are number one and they strive to make their customers happy with every order they make. If you are hungry say “Eat better Pizza, Let’s get Jets.” I know that Frank and I along with our station engineers did, and you will as well.
