“The Coast of Maine has arrived in Chicago- Two Lights Seafood & Oyster”

[rating=5]We have driven down North Avenue, near Wells for almost a year without ever noticing a sign that says Two Lights.  I am one of those who truly enjoys seafood and continue to search for East Coast quality but without having to travel. I now know that it has arrived…in Old Town! Two Lights Seafood & Oyster located at 227 West North Avenue is what I might call a “destination dining spot.” They have been in this location since last June and as I said, I have been to countless plays at Red Orchid and Second City , and never noticed them. Now , having enjoyed their brunch menu, I am looking forward to returning for their dinner menu as well.

Since Jane was recovering from her recent surgery, she was not up to the trek. so just the three of us, (Alan and Vickie who are regulars in dining reviews) partook of the small, yet tasty menu of Brunch items. Our server, Megan truly a delight in every way, led us thru the menu. For starters Vickie and I enjoyed an Oyster Shooter ( East Coast style) Bloody Mary while Alan had the Irish Coffee ( very tasty).

We ordered four menu items:

Maine Lobster Benedict- a true delight and we did notice that other tables ordered this dish as well as the Smoked Salmon version with a scrambled base instead of the poached. We also loved the smoked salmon avocado toast ( soft boiled eggs, micro watercress) and the Dutch Apple Baby Pancake ( sheer perfection) and the unbelievable Bacon Crusted French Toast  WOW!. I have had crunchy French toast before. In fact, there is a restaurant on Wells Street that is known for their French toast with corn flakes- this tops that! Challah bread, whipped lemon honey yogurt and a blueberry Compote complete a dish that makes the trip to “Old Town” worth it.

Other items ( for next trip) Grilled Spanish Octopus, Biscuits & Clam Chowder Gravy and the Mussel Breakfast Bowl truly caught my eye. They also serve lunch menu items such as a seaside salad, Tuna Poke Tacos, a special Two Lights Cheeseburger, a fish sandwich and their Croque Madame Salad plate.

Their dinner menu is made up of soups ( Lobster Bisque/Clam Chowder) and salads some sandwiches and of course a few mains. The portions are very sharable and if you are only looking for a cocktail and small plate/appetizer, they have an amazing full bar and lots of goodies to partake of. What is great about this restaurant is , the service, the food and most of all, the affordability. The prices are very comfortable for almost every budget.

Again, the location is 227 West North Avenue in Chicago. Parking is street ( metered or in the self=park for Piper’s Alley, right across the street. www.TwoLightsChicago.com call 312-929-3091 to reserve your dinner or brunch.

Two Lights Seafood & Oyster is owned by Keene & Megan Addington and is a delight to both your taste buds and your pocketbook! Enjoy! I know we did! I cannot wait to bring Jane back so she can enjoy what we did.
