Recently, I had the opportunity to meet with a Northbrook Chiropractic, Dr. Jose Aguilar. Dr. Aguilar, raised in Iowa, grew up in a household that had very little. There were lots of siblings and his mother suffered from migraines. These migraines were so bad, she would lock herself in her room and let Jose take care of his siblings. When he was around nine, a neighbor, who a sit turns out was a Chiropractic, came by to see what was happening. When he saw the state of Mrs. Aguilar, he suggested that he be allowed to perhaps “heal” her. As Jose saw that Chiropractic was indeed taking the pain from his mother, allowing the family to once again be a family, he knew that this was a “sign”. This was his calling! To be able to help people in his mother’s condition to be healthy once again.
Dr. Aguilar earned his Doctorate of Chiropractic at the Palmer College of Chiropractic, after earning his degrees in Health Sciences and Liberal Arts at Black Hawk College. During his time at Palmer, he did missionary work in Fiji, providing care to underserved communities. His passion is to provide relief from pain and to assist people in developing better health through Chiropractic care. Many people fear the word/title Chiropractic, thinking these are untrained people , BUT, of great importance to the world, Chiropractic training is pretty much the same as that of a Medical student, until the latter years. While doctors learn surgical procedures and pharmacy, chiropractic learn natural processes. It is also his desire to make sure that the underserved Hispanic population is better educated about Chiropractic and its healing powers!
Dr. Aguilar has done numerous lectures speaking on topics such as; stress, nutrition, posture, injury prevention, whiplash, peak performance and more. Just as medicine keeps changing, chiropractic continue to attend seminars to continue to offer the best service they can. He has attended post-grad seminars at such institutes as Harvard School of Medicine and the Spine Research Institute of San Diego. Dr. Aguilar is also recognized as a Top Recommended Professional as a Chiropractor and has been quoted on NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox.
When he made the move to Chicago, he met his future wife , a massage therapist, and together they began their own practice in Highland Park, Helping Hands Massage and Chiropractic. This had been her small massage therapy office and with the two practices together, they quickly outgrew this space, moving a few blocks south to Northbrook at 300-L Skokie Blvd. With much larger office space, they have been able to add additional staff allowing them to ease the pain for many more area people.
